It was written and directed by Declan O'Brien and produced by Constantin Film Produktion, Summit Entertainment and StrangeLand Oddities. It was released direct-to-video through Twentieth Century Fox on October 25th, 2011. This film changes up the formula slightly by including a partial origin of the three fun-loving inbred mutant killers known as Three-Finger, One-Eye and Saw-Tooth, while also trading in the woodsy mountains of West Virginia for the snow-covered frigid cold of an abandoned sanatorium.
