World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War is an American horror novel by author Max Brooks. The story deals with themes of the zombie apocalypse subgenre. It was first published in hardcover edition by the Crown Publishing Group in 2006. It was released in paperback form (342 pages) by Three Rivers Press on October 16th, 2007. The book was succeeded by a companion piece called Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead, also by Max Brooks. The book showcases individual accounts of people forced to survive in a world taken over by zombies.

  • The individual stories presented in this book were inspired by the works of film director George A. Romero, who is best known for the creation of the "Living Dead" series of films, beginning with Night of the Living Dead in 1968.
  • World War Z has also been made available for the Amazon Kindle eBook reader.
  • World War Z has been made available as an Audio CD.
  • A major feature film called World War Z was released in 2013. Though it shares the name and thematic structure of the novel, it has very little else in common with the book in terms of story or characters.
