Plot[]

A recently widowed black woman named Ramona struggles with depression as well as taking care of her two kids, teenager Taylor and his younger sister Annie. In addition to falling behind on bills, resulting in the family's power being shut off, Ramona is also recovering from a massive leg injury sustained in the car accident that claimed her husband David's life.

While dealing with family tensions, Ramona notices a strange black-veiled woman sitting in a chair in the front yard of their home. Nervously approaching her, Ramona asks who she is, and what does she want. The woman replies in only the most minimal of cryptic words, causing unease amongst the house occupants, "Today's the day".

Going back into the house, Ramona deals with Taylor, who wants to drive to a neighbor's house to get some help, but Ramona won't allow it because he's too young to drive. Taylor then notices that their dog Charlie seems to be missing. Ramona goes outside, and sees that the woman and her chair are even closer to the house. She finds evidence of Charlie's leash & chain, but no dog... fearing that it may have died.

Going back into the house, the topic of conversation turns towards the accident. Taylor and Annie assumed that their father had been driving the car on the night of the fatal crash, but it was actually Ramona. Ramona begins hallucinating, experiencing bizarre visions of stabbing her daughter Annie to death, and strange dreams about David.

All the while, the woman in the yard seems to be haunting them, edging ever closer to the house, and using dark, shadowy magic to intensify the fear and tension that is growing inside. The woman targets the children, seemingly spiriting Annie away, much how she likely did with Charlie the dog.

The Woman is revealed to be a physical manifestation of Ramona's psyche and only appeared because Ramona was praying for her. When pressed what she prayed for she claims it was strength to carry on after David's death, when in reality she was praying for the strength to end her life because of her depression. The Woman intends to help her commit suicide, convincing Ramona that the children are better off without her. She shows them photographs from the future, showing her children as successful and happy adults.

After Ramona says goodbye to her kids, the Woman leads her into the barn, where she assists Ramona with placing a rifle beneath her chin. However, nothing happens and the woman disappears. Taylor and Annie come back, along with Charlie, who is still alive. Ramona has seemingly come to terms with her depression. They ask if the Woman will come back, and Ramona assures them that she will be ready. As they embrace, the camera pans into the house, revealing a painting Ramona had not finished that shows her and the Woman's faces together with Ramona's name spelled backward.
