"The Behemoth!" is the seventeenth issue of the first Werewolf by Night ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. It was written by Mike Friedrich with artwork and inks by Don Perlin. "WBN 17" serves as a shortcut to this page. The character of Jack Russell was created by Roy Thomas, Jean Thomas & Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog. He first appeared in the "Night of Full Moon... Night of Fear!" story from Marvel Spotlight #2 from February, 1972. The tagline to this issue is "Behold -- the Behemoth!" This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority. According to Comic Reader #103, this issue shipped to retailers on February 19th, 1974. This issue is reprinted in black and white in the Essential Werewolf by Night, Volume 1 trade paperback collection, released in 2005. It is reprinted in full color in the Werewolf by Night Omnibus, Volume 1 from 2015 and the Werewolf by Night: The Complete Collection, Volume 2 in 2018. With this issue, the cover price raises from .20 cents per copy to .25 cents per copy. This issue includes Marvel Value Stamp, Series A #99, the Sandman. This issue officially begins Don Perlin's regular run on the book as series artist. He will continue on the title throughout the remainder of its run. Reference is made to Geraldo "Kabel" in this issue. He will not make his first appearance until Werewolf by Night #20 where he will be identified as Geraldo "Kabal". This is the first appearance of both Baron Thunder and the Behemoth robot. Both appear next in Werewolf by Night #18. Topaz appeared last in Werewolf by Night #16. She appears next in Giant-Size Werewolf #3. Lissa Russell appeared last in Werewolf by Night #12. She appears next in Werewolf by Night #18. Jean Giraud is a member of the Police Nationale in Paris, France. Sammy is a security guard.
