The character of Jack Russell was created by Roy Thomas , Jean Thomas & Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog . He first appeared in the "Night of Full Moon... Night of Fear!" story from Marvel Spotlight #2 from February , 1972 .

The character of the Hunchback from this issue is intended as a pastiche of the Victor Hugo character, Quasimodo , from the 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame . He is not to be confused with the Marvel Comics character, Quasimodo.
