"His Name is Taboo" is the title to the thirteenth issue of the Werewolf by Night ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The story was written by Marv Wolfman with artwork by Mike Ploog and inks by Frank Chiaramonte. It was colored by Petra Goldberg and lettered by John Costanza. The story was edited by Roy Thomas. This issue shipped with a January, 1974 cover date and carries a cover price of .20 cents per copy.

"His Name is Taboo"

Jack Russell transforms into the werewolf one night only to be knocked out by a spell and abducted by followers of the sorcerer known as Taboo and his familiar, Topaz.

Taboo claims his magic had manipulated the Committee and the Darkhold was stolen from him and wants it back to revive his son. When he learns that Russell's copy of the Darkhold was destroyed, Taboo gets angry and orders Topaz to kill the Werewolf, but she refuses. He instead has the Werewolf thrown into a holding cell along with Jack's also-kidnapped step-father, Philip Russell.

The Werewolf is expected to kill Philip, but deep down he remembers his mother's dying wish and instead focuses on escape. When the werewolf and Philip get free and find Taboo, Topaz's magic accidentally transfers Philip's mind into Algon's dormant body, causing the monstrous mummy to rise under Taboo's command.

The character of Jack Russell was created by Roy Thomas, Jean Thomas & Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog. He first appeared in the "Night of Full Moon... Night of Fear!" story from Marvel Spotlight #2 from February, 1972. This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority. The tagline for this issue is "From darkness he comes! The terrifying Man-Monster called -- Taboo!" This issue is reprinted in black and white in the Essential Werewolf by Night, Volume 1 trade paperback collection, released in 2005. It is reprinted in full color in the Werewolf by Night Omnibus, Volume 1 from 2015 and the Werewolf by Night: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 in 2017. This is the eighth issue of the series illustrated by Mike Ploog, and his ninth issue as cover artist. His last interior art work was on Werewolf by Night #7, and his last cover art work was on Werewolf by Night #8. This is the first appearance of Topaz. Topaz becomes a regular supporting cast member of this series. She appears next in Tomb of Dracula #18. This is the first appearance of Taboo. His origin is revealed in flashback in this issue.
