A wedding is a procedural celebration in which two people are joined in marriage. It is typically observed as a religious ceremony, and is generally followed by a wedding reception. Traditionally, a wedding is between a man and a woman, but as social values have evolved over time, same sex marriages have become more commonplace.

Weddings may sometimes end in disaster. This actually happens quite often, usually due to unhappy relatives or drunken guests. Every now again, though this is rare - an alligator might show up and begin eating the wedding guests. It sounds crazy, but it does happen. Back in 1980, the Slade family were having a big outdoor wedding reception when a giant mutated alligator crashed the party and began eating guests. Ironically, the Slade family were actually responsible for the creature obtaining its gregarious size.

In "The Wedding from Hell" episode of Charmed, Elliot Spencer attempted to marry his beloved Allison Michaels, only to discover that his mother, Grace, made a pact with Hecate twenty years earlier, promising her child's offspring in exchange for wealth and power. The Charmed Ones learned of the debacle and did what they could to prevent the literal "Wedding from Hell".

On the A&E television series Bates Motel, Sheriff Alex Romero married Norma Bates at the White Pine Bay City Hall in Oregon. This was a marriage of convenience, as Norma required Alex's health insurance in order to get her troubled son, Norman, into the Pineview Institute. Despite it being a fake marriage, they still consummated the ceremony on their wedding night.
