A vagrant is someone who is unhouse and unemployed and is usually found wandering from location to location, begging or scavenging to support themselves. It is not uncommon for vagrants to resort to thievery either. Vagrants have been historically characterized as outsiders in settled, ordered communities: embodiments of otherness, objects of scorn or mistrust, or worthy recipients of help and charity. Many U.S. states have vagrancy laws in place to prevent homeless people from remaining in one area for too long.
In the Hellraiser film series, a vagrant appeared in Tijuana, Mexico and encountered two American boys in a bar named Nico Bradley and Steven Craven. This vagrant was actually a pawn of the Cenobites, serving as the vessel by which to distribute the Lemarchand puzzle box unto those who might be apt to receive such a gift. Sitting with them at the bar, the vagrant described that the puzzle box was the doorway to infinite sensations of ultimate experience. Nico reluctantly accepted the box and solved the riddle. The vagrant later appeared at the home of the home of the Craven family. When he refused to leave, house guest Peter Bradley tried to shoot him with a shotgun. The vagrant merely stood back up however and killed Peter. (Hellraiser: Revelations)
