"Parallel Monsters" is a Spanish language film short. It is part of the V/H/S film series and is the third vignette in the 2014 film V/H/S: Viral. It was written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo. The short stars Gustavo Salmerón as Alfonso - an inventor who creates a machine that can open a doorway into a parallel reality.
Plot[]
Alfonso is a Spanish inventor who successfully creates a mechanical doorway that can open a portal into a parallel world. Upon activating his device for the first time, he discovers that a version of himself from another reality has been creating the exact same experiment at the exact same time. Excited and astonished, the two Alfonsos agree to visit each other's world for exactly fifteen minutes and then arrange to return to their respective dimensions. As the original Alfonso goes to his counterpart's reality, the second Alfonso explores his alternate's house, noting how everything is a mirror opposite of what he is accustomed to; east side doors are now on the west, door knobs are on opposing sides, etc. He finds the prime Alfonso's wife, Marta, sleeping in their room. While videotaping her, he simultaneously begins taking photographs of her with his mobile phone and then begins pleasuring himself.
Meanwhile, the original Alfonso explores his duplicate's world and finds that the other version of Marta is still awake. Marta invites her husband into the living room where two half-naked young men, both named Oriol, are sitting on the couch. There are astrological symbols on the ceiling, a pornographic movie is playing in the background, Satanic symbols decorate the apartment, and in the center of the room is a bag of bloody meat intended for some sort of black mass. Alfonso is greatly disturbed by this, but keeps quiet. The Oriols determine that whatever preordained ritual that was intended to take place was not happening, so they both leave. Marta admonishes Alfonso for his strange behavior. Alfonso freaks out when he hears strange noises and goes outside. In the sky is a dirigible with a loudspeaker broadcasting bizarre chants. A symbol of an inverted cross glows on its side. Alfonso comes upon the Oriols, who take exception to the fact that he is filming them. Their faces begin to glow and they take on a devilish countenance. They attack Alfonso, exposing their penises, which are revealed to be monstrous appendages with mouths. He runs back into the house where he finds Marta, who disrobes, revealing a massive vagina that is lined with chomping teeth.
In the core reality, the other Alfonso continues to leer at the sleeping Marta. He pulls out his own monster-penis and attacks Marta who screams. The Alfonso of this reality returns to his true dimension, but his Marta meets him just inside the gate just as the prime Alfonso switches off the device, thus closing the portal. The Marta from the alternate world invokes her right of domestic violence and kills her husband with her vagina mouth. The Marta from the core reality, runs into the living room to find her actual husband. Mistaking him for the version that just attacked her, she violently stabs him multiple times in the chest with a kitchen knife.
