"Shadows in the Night!" is the twenty-third issue of the first Tomb of Dracula ongoing comic book series published by Marvel Comics. It was written by Marv Wolfman with artwork by Gene Colan and inks by Tom Palmer. It was colored by Petra Goldberg and lettered by John Costanza. The story was edited by Roy Thomas. This issue shipped with an August, 1974 cover date and carries a cover price of .25 cents per copy.

Notes & Trivia

Dracula was created by Irish author Bram Stoker. He is the titular antagonist of Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, which was inspired by an actual Wallachian nobleman known as Vlad II, aka Vlad the Impaler. The character has since been imagined as a powerful vampire count in various forms of media and has been played by many notable actors such as Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Frank Langella, Gary Oldman, and even Leslie Nielsen. This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority. According to Comics Reader #106, published by Street Enterprises in May, 1974, this issue shipped to retailers on May 7th, 1974. This issue is reprinted in black and white in the Essential Tomb of Dracula, Volume 1 trade paperback, which was published in 2004. It is also reprinted in the full-color hardcover collection, The Tomb of Dracula Omnibus, Volume 1, which was published in October, 2008. It is also reprinted in the Tomb of Dracula: The Complete Collection, Volume 2, published in October, 2018. The events of this issue take place after Giant-Size Chillers featuring Dracula #1. This is the first, and to date, only known appearance of Alestar Dunwick. This is the second appearance of Shiela Whittier. She appeared last in Giant-Size Chillers featuring Dracula #1. Alestar Duncan is the father of Shiela Whittier, though she grew up believing he was her uncle.
