Toby Pangborn was the son of Annie and Alan Pangborn. he had a brother named Todd and lived in New York City, New York.
Toby Pangborn was killed in a vehicular accident when a man named John "Ace" Merrill ran the Pangborns' car off the road. His mother and brother died in the crash as well.
Unable to cope with the grief, Alan Pangborn left New York City and took up a job in New England as the Sheriff of Castle Rock, Maine.
