The Grudge 3 is an American horror film of the haunted house/ghost subgenre. It is the third installment in The Grudge films series and follows the 2006 film The Grudge 2. This film is the first in the series to be released straight to DVD and it is also the only film in the series that is entirely a US production. The movie was directed by Toby Wilkins and produced by Stage 6 Films and released through Sam Raimi's video distribution company Ghost House Pictures. It premiered on home video on May 12th, 2009. The film stars Matthew Knight, Shawnee Smith, Mike Straub, Aiko Horiuchi and Shimba Tsuchiya. The premise of the movie involves a young Japanese woman who holds a secret to ending the curse of the Grudge. She travels to a haunted Chicago apartment building where she encounters a family battling to survive the ghosts. Together they confront the ghost of Kayako to save their souls from their impending tragic fate.

  • Production on The Grudge 3 began on March 17th, 2008. The movie was shot in New Boyana Film Studios and Knyaz-Borisova Gradina in Sofia, Bulgaria.
  • The Grudge 3 was originally going to be released on March 24, 2009, but was pushed back along with the Blu-ray release of the first film. The film was released in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track.
  • The Grudge 3 is the first film in either the Grudge or Ju-On franchises to take place in chronological order.
  • This is the only film in the series to receive an R-rating. The two previous films were released unrated.
