The Black Cat is an Italian horror film of the giallo film style made popular during this time. It was written and directed by noted filmmaker Lucio Fulci with a script that was co-written by Biagio Proietti. It is loosely based on the 1843 short story The Black Cat by author Edgar Allan Poe. The movie premiered in Italy on April 4th, 1981. It opened to limited theatrical release in the United States on February 10th, 1984.
