The Strangers: Chapter 1 is an American feature film of the psychological thriller and slasher subgenres of horror. It is the third movie in the Strangers film series and serves as a reboot of the franchise, with this film being the first installment of a planned trilogy. It was directed by Renny Harlin with a screenplay written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland based on a story and concepts by franchise creator Bryan Bertino. It was produced by Fifth Element Productions and Frame Film in association with Lipsync Productions and was distributed through Lionsgate. The movie had its world premiere at Regal L.A. Live on May 8th, 2024. It premiered internationally in France and Belgium on May 15th, 2024. It was released theatrically in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on May 17th, 2024. The movie stars Madelaine Petsch as Maya along with Froy Gutierrez as Ryan. Maya and Ryan are longtime lovers who suffer some automobile trouble in the podunk town of Venus and are forced to spend the night in an Airbnb. Through the course of the evening, they are traumatized by a trio of home invaders wearing masks bent on brutally murdering the couple simply because "they are there".
