Steve Banning is a fictional adventurer and a central character in the film The Mummy's Hand and The Mummy's Tomb. He was played by Dick Foran in both films. He also appeared in the Hammer Film Productions remake of The Mummy in 1959 where he was played by Felix Aylmer.

Biography

Steve Banning was a down-on-his luck archeologist who was trying to find any clue to a big discovery. When he found an old piece of pottery in the market, he felt he had hit the jackpot, though his friend Babe Jenson was distraught that he paid so much money for it.

Bannon found a rich magician Solvani to back his expedition, where he attempted to find Ananka's tomb. Bannon, Jenson, Solvani, and his daughter, Marta Solvani took part. A man named Andoheb followed along to the dig as well. However, he directed the mummy Kharis to kill the dig party one by one for desecrating Ananka's tomb. Along the way, he fell for Marta, directing Kharis to kidnap her in order to inject her and himself with tana leaf tea to become immortal. However, Banning found them and thwarted his plan and sets Kharis on fire.

Thirty years later, The High Priest charged Mehemet Bey to take Kheris to kill the Banning family for desecrating Ananka's tomb. After telling his house guests the adventure that occurred in 1940, Banning went to bed. Kharis broke into his room and strangled him to death in his bed before setting his sights on the other family members.
