Speargun

A speargun is like a harpoon and is a tool used mostly for serious fishing. It is a cylindrical handheld device that projects a single pointed shaft, usually attached to some type of line or cable.

In the 1954 monster movie, Creature from the Black Lagoon, deep sea diver Mark Williams took a speargun with him while swimming the depths of the Black Lagoon in South America.

A speargun appeared in the 1983 movie Jaws 3D. Needless to say, spearguns are all but useless when going up against giant great white sharks with a mad-on for pesky tourists.

In the Friday the 13th film series, Jason Voorhees has used a spear gun on at least two occasions. He grabbed one that was being used by Shelly Finkelstein and used it to shoot Vera Sanchez through the eye. Obviously, the wound was fatal.

A few years later, Jason used a speargun owned by Jim Miller when he boarded his sailboat out on Camp Crystal Lake. He killed Jim with the gun, then killed Jim's girlfriend, Suzy Donaldson.

On the "Hungry for Fame" episode of the ABC series Reaper, a speargun was used as the featured vessel by which the main characters had to trap an escaped soul from Hell.

In the 2017 film 47 Meters Down, the character of Kate uses a spear gun in order to snag a greatly-needed oxygen tank that is just out of reach. She accidentally slices her hand open against the point of the spear.
