- Soft for Digging premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia in July, 2001. It was first screened in the United States at the Sundance Film Festival in January, 2002. The movie has also been screened at the Seattle International Film Festival, the Athens Film Festival, where it was entitled Elafry to homa, and the Dead by Dawn Edinburgh Horror Film Festival on April 26th, 2003.
- Soft for Digging won the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Boston Independent Film Festival for Best Narrative.
- Director/producer J.T. Petty is also known for directing the 2003 direct-to-video sequel Mimic: Sentinel.
