The Sleepy Hollow Sheriff's Department is a law-enforcement agency located in the town of Sleepy Hollow (formerly Tarrytown) in the state of New York. The Sleepy Hollow Sheriff's Department plays a major role in the FOX Network television series Sleepy Hollow.
The former sheriff of the town was August Corbin, who spent most of his off-time as an occult scholar and guardian to delinquent-turned-police officer Abbie Mills. The captain of the Sleepy Hollow Sheriff's Department was Frank Irving. The sherrif's office found an increase in their case loads when a mysterious Headless Horseman suddenly appeared, who was in fact Death - One of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
One of the deputies who worked at the Sleepy Hollow Sheriff's Department was Andy Brooks, who was a servant of a demon named Moloch, which likewise had a strong connection to the arrival of the Horseman. An 18th century British soldier named Ichabod Crane was the first to encounter the Horseman and succeeded in decapitating him, but the mixture of their blood on the battlefield bound the two together throughout all of time. Crane's wife, Katrina, was a witch, who buried Ichabod deep below the Earth in a state of suspended animation, knowing that this too would halt the presence of the Horseman.
In the modern era, Crane was awakened and was forced to quickly assimilate 21st century culture. He was found by Abigail Mills, now a police lieutenant detective and aided her in investigating the mystery of the Horseman and the death of the former sheriff, August Corbin. Captain Irving was a skeptical man however, and though Abigail believed Crane's story about being a man from the 18th century, Irving thought he was just mentally disturbed. However, he valued Crane's intellect and resourcefulness and allowed Mills to work with him on several more cases.
Another member of the Sleepy Hollow Sheriff's Department is Detective Luke Morales. More than anyone, Morales developed an instant dislike to Ichabod Crane.
