Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 is an American low-budget independent feature film of the holiday horror and slasher subgenres. It is the second installment in the original Silent Night, Deadly Night film series. It was directed by Lee Harry with a screenplay written by Harry and Joseph H. Earle based on a story treatment developed by Harry, Earle, Dennis Patterson and Lawrence Appelbaum. It was produced by the Silent Night Releasing Corporation and released theatrically in the United States on April 10th, 1987. The film stars Eric Freeman as Ricky Caldwell - brother of the late Billy Caldwell, who breaks out of a mental institution to take up his deceased sibling's calling in punishing those that he deems to be "naughty".
Plot[]
Ricky at the institution.
Ricky Caldwell is the younger brother of deceased serial killer Billy Caldwell. When they were both children, the Caldwell brothers witnessed the violent murder of their parents by a deranged maniac dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. They were both sent to live at the same orphanage, but Billy grew up traumatized by the experience and became a killer Santa Claus himself. When he returned to the orphanage years later to murder the cruel Mother Superior, young Ricky watched his brother being gunned down by police officers.
Seeing his brother's demise, coupled with the surprisingly vivid memories of his parents' murder, Ricky grew up to become an unstable maniac himself. After committing several murders of his own, Ricky was remanded to a psychiatric institute. Prior to incarceration, Ricky had fallen in love with a woman named Jennifer, whom he was led to believe was a virgin. One evening, Ricky took Jennifer to see a violent movie at the theater. An obnoxious heckler earned Ricky's wrath, and he murdered him in the back of the theater while Jennifer watched the movie. He later had an encounter with Jennifer's ex-boyfriend, Chip. Ricky murdered him by shoving live jumper cables into his mouth, electrocuting him. Having learned that his beloved Jennifer was not the virgin she claimed to be, Ricky "punished" her by strangling her to death. He was apprehended by police officers soon after.
Death by umbrella!
In the present, Ricky is a patient at a mental hospital under the care of Doctor Henry Bloom. Caldwell is sarcastic and belligerent towards the doctor, but Bloom succeeds in coaxing Ricky into telling him about his past. After Ricky tires of Doctor Bloom's attentions, he murders him and escapes from the hospital.
Chip gets zapped!
Ricky murders a man at a gas station dressed up in a Santa Claus outfit. He steals the costume and goes off to complete his brother's original mission - to kill Mother Superior. Mother Superior, having suffered a stroke, is now retired from her work at the orphanage. Ricky tracks her to her home and accosts her. The wheelchair bound nun, still in full clerical attire despite being retired (guess its a hard "habit" to break), tries to keep him at bay by blocking the door to her room. Ricky breaks through with an axe however, and throws Mother Superior down the stairs. Broken and helpless, there is little the aging nun can do but cry out as Ricky brings his axe down upon her.
One of Mother Superior's younger charges, Sister Mary, comes to the house to check on her. She finds the old woman's staged body sitting in a chair. When she touches her, Mother Superior's head falls off. Police officers arrive on the scene just as Ricky leaps out to kill Sister Mary. They gun him down and he falls out of a window. Despite these seemingly fatal injuries, Ricky Caldwell opens his eyes.
