Sean S. Cunningham is an American film producer, director and founder of Sean S. Cunningham Films. He is the husband of Susan E. Cunningham and father of Chelsea and Noel Cunningham. Cunningham is best known as the creator and driving force behind the Friday the 13th franchise. The New York native attended school at Stamford University where he earned a Masters Degree in Drama and Film. His early career was as a stage manager for several New York-based theatrical productions. His first film was a 1970 sex-education film entitled The Art of Marriage.
Sean's son Noel Cunningham made a cameo appearance as a sleeping camper in the original Friday the 13th. He is seen in the very opening shot, third child on the left. Noel later went on to become an assistant editor and producer on future Friday projects.
