Scream 2 is an American horror film of the slasher subgenre. It is the first sequel to the 1996 film Scream. The movie was directed by Wes Craven with a script written by Kevin Williamson. It was produced by Miramax Films, Dimension Films and Craven-Maddalena Films and released theatrically in the United States on December 12th, 1997. As with the first film, Scream 2 is a dark comedy, presenting a satirical look at films of the slasher genre, with emphasis on film sequels. Notable surviving cast members from the first film reprise their roles for the sequel including Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Jamie Kennedy as Randy Meeks and Liev Schreiber as Cotton Weary.

- Production on Scream 2 began on June 16th, 1997. Principal photography concluded on August 28th, 1997.
- This is the first film work for actress Paulette Patterson.
- Actress Courteney Cox was married to fellow Scream co-star David Arquette from June 12th, 1999 to May 28th, 2013.
- Courteney Cox is the former daughter-in-law of Lewis Arquette who appeared with her in Scream 2 in the role of Chief Hartley.
Home Video[edit | edit source]
- Scream 2 was first released on home video in VHS format by Buena Vista Home Entertainment on December 1st, 1998.
- The Scream 2 DVD was first released in Region 1 format by Dimension Home Video on July 2nd, 1998.
- It was re-released on August 7th, 2001 where it was branded under the "Dimension Collector's Series" banner.
- The Deluxe Collector's Series version of the film was released by Miramax Films and Lions Gate Entertainment on April 26th, 2011.
- The movie is included in the Ultimate Scream Collection, which also includes Scream and Scream 3, which was released on December 26th, 2000. At the time of its release, there were no plans to continue the film series.
