- Scary Movie was released to DVD by Dimension Films and Disney Studios on December 12th, 2000. It was packaged with Scary Movie 2 as a double-feature DVD by Buena Vista Home Video on May 11th, 2004.
- Scary Movie was the original working title for the 1996 slasher film Scream, which this movie heavily lampoons.
- Production on Scary Movie began on August 11th, 1999 and concluded on January 17th, 2000.
- Although this film boasts the tagline, "No mercy. No shame. No sequel," there have in fact been four sequels to the movie to date.
- In one of the first scenes in Cindy's bedroom she says, "Would like to have a little bump-bump?" This line was originally written for Scream, but it was later changed to "Would you like to have a little raw footage?" [2]
- Executive producer Bo Zenga would go on to write and direct his own horror/comedy spoof, Stan Helsing in 2009.
