Saw IV is an American horror film of the slasher subgenre. It is the fourth installment in the ongoing Saw franchise and was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. It was produced by James Wan's company Twisted Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on October 26th, 2007. It is the first film in the series to spotlight on recurring villain John "Jigsaw" Kramer, even though the character was killed off at the end of Saw III. The story of the Jigsaw killer continues however as someone continues abducting and torturing individuals in his name; forcing them to struggle to survive a series of elaborate fatal traps.

Notes & Trivia[]

Timeline[]

  • The main events of this film take place concurrently with the events from Saw III. The opening scene with John Kramer's autopsy and the closing scene with Mark Hoffman observing the body take place immediately following the events of Saw III and this film.
  • The main events of this film take place six months after the events of Saw II. Hoffman states that Eric Matthews has been missing for six months.
  • A morgue tag shown in Saw IV establishes that the events of Saw III and this film take place on October 21st, 2006. The movie establishes that John Kramer is 52-years-old, making his year of birth 1952. Actor Tobin Bell was actually born in 1942, making him ten years older than his character. This is an acceptable age gap given that John Kramer's body is riddled with cancer, which would likely cause him to look older than he really was.
