A salesperson is the politically correct nomenclature for somebody who sells stuff. They could be a used car salesperson, an insurance salesperson, or maybe some dude on the corner trying to sell you some crack (though we tend to refer to this particular classification of saleperson as a "drug dealer" or "pusher"). One who sells their ass to make a buck could technically be construed as a salesperson as well.
In The Walking Dead comic book series by Image Comics, the character of Allen was a shoe salesman before the zombie apocalypse. Another salesperson from this same series was Ed Peletier, who also managed to appear in The Walking Dead television series on AMC.
