Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Undead is an American independent feature film of the comedy and vampire fiction subgenres of horror. It is based on the absurdist comedic stage play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, which was produced in 1966 and adapted into a feature film in 1990. The play itself is a farcical spin-off of Hamlet by British playwright William Shakespeare and centers around two minor characters from the play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Undead was written and directed by Jordan Galland and produced by C Plus Pictures in association with Off Hollywood Pictures, and distributed through Traction Media. It premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in the United States on January 19th, 2009 and opened to limited theatrical release in the U.S. on June 4th, 2010.
Plot[]
Julian Marsh is an out of work ladies' man who lands a job directing a bizarre adaptation of Hamlet. After casting his best friend and his ex-girlfriend in the show, Julian finds himself in the middle of a two thousand year old conspiracy that explains the connection between Shakespeare, the Holy Grail and some seriously sexy vampires. It turns out that the play was actually written by a master vampire name Theo Horace and it's up to Julian to recover the Grail in order to reverse the vampire's curse... If only being undead wasn't so much God-damned fun!
