Room 237 is an American documentary directed by Rodney Ascher. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd, 2012. It was screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21st, 2012. The documentary explores the numerous interpretations of the themes and visuals of the movie, as seen through the eyes of various cinephiles and analysts. Theories that are espoused include the overt Native American themes that are rampant through the movie, implying a message about the historical genocide of an entire nation of people. Another theorist comments about the typewriter that Jack Torrance uses to write his play, connecting it to the Holocaust and an unfinished concept film that Kubrick had been putting together called Aryan Papers. Another theorist suggests that Kubrick was involved in creating fake footage of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and that this movie serves as something of a subtle apology for his involvement in perpetuating an alleged moon landing hoax.
