Roman Bridger is a fictional director, Serial killer, and a character in the Scream franchise. He was introduced in the 2000 film Scream 3 and was played by actor Scott Foley. He also appeared in the upcoming 2026 sequel, Scream 7 (in one form or another).
Biography[]
Roman serves as the main antagonist of Scream 3, where he is revealed to be the son of Maureen Prescott, the half-brother of Sidney Prescott and the fifth Ghostface in the series. Roman is also the mastermind behind the original Woodsboro murders, wanting revenge on Maureen for abandoning him and starting a new family, and giving Billy Loomis pointers and the desire to kill Maureen and begin a killing spree when he exposes a video of Hank Loomis and Maureen to Billy, an affair that resulted in the divorce of his parents.
Roman's Ghostface costume, complete with the bulletproof vest, is seen in the Ghostface shrine created by Wayne Bailey in Scream VI.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Roman is the only killer in the Scream franchise to be killed by Dewey Riley, as well as the second to not be killed by Sidney Prescott.
- Though never confirmed, it is implied that Roman's father is producer John Milton as Maureen Prescott was raped at one of his parties.
- He is shown to be smarter than the previous Ghostface killers, wearing a bulletproof vest and possessing a voice changer that would allow him to imitate the voice of anyone. He also faked his death while in Milton's home with Hollywood props to throw off any suspicions that he was the killer at the time.
- Roman possesses the highest body count out of any Ghostface killer with 9 due to there only being one Ghostface in Scream 3.
- As previously mentioned, Roman is the only Ghostface killer to not have an accomplice.
- Roman is the only Ghostface killer to claim a victim without having to make any physical contact with them (blowing Tom Prinze up in an explosion caused by a gas leak.) Though Ethan Landry also killed Anika Kayoko in Scream VI by wiggling a ladder, causing her to fall and hit her head on a dumpster, Ethan still made previous physical contact with her by stabbing and ripping her stomach open.
- Roman's scream when Sidney first stabs him with the icepick during the final act was real as Scott Foley was actually stabbed by the icepick prop when Neve Campbell missed the pad that the pick was supposed to go into and hit flesh.
