Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish author, poet and essayist born in Edinburgh on November 13th, 1850. He is best known for writing the 1886 novel Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as well as the adventure epics Treasure Island and Kidnapped. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde proved immensely popular and was immediately adapted into stage productions within a year of its release. The book has gone on to be adapted into numerous film productions, most of which use some variation of the title "Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde".
In 1884, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the short story "The Body Snatcher". It was first published in December in the Pall Mall Christmas "Extra". It was adapted into a film in 1945 by Robert Wise starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.
Stevenson also wrote the short story "The Sire de Maletroit's Door", which was included in Volume II: English of the International Short Stories anthology collection, first published in 1910. The story was later adapted into the Joseph Pevney film The Strange Door starring Charles Laughton and Boris Karloff in 1951.
Robert Louis Stevenson passed away in Vailima, Samoa on December 3rd, 1894 at the age of 44.
