Richard Fenton is a fictional teacher, stalker and murderer that first appeared in the 2008 horror film Prom Night, directed by Nelson McCormick, which is a loose remake of the 1980 film of the same name, serving as the main antagonist of the film. The character was played by Jonathon Schaech.
Biography[]
At some point prior to the film's event, Fenton was a teacher at Bridgeport High School where he became obsessed with one of his students, Donna Keppel and was promptly fired and had a restraining order against him, which ultimately fueled his obsession. In 2005, he murders Donna's father and younger brother while she is on a date to the movies with her friend Lisa Hines and subsequently murders her mother while Donna looks from under the bed when she refuses to give up Donna's location. Three years later, on the night of Donna's prom as a senior, Fenton escapes from prison after slashing another inmate's throat and disguises himself as a hotel resident named Howard Ramsey. After learning of the suite she is in, he murders a maid to steal her master keycard so that he has access to the suite anytime and later murders Donna's friend Claire and her boyfriend Michael. He then murders a hotel employee who becomes suspicious of the maid's whereabouts.
Later, Lisa and her boyfriend Ronnie bump into Fenton while heading to the suite to search for Claire and Michael. Lisa recalls remembering him from somewhere and while kissing Ronnie, she remembers he is the stalker and attempts to race to Donna and warn her but Fenton catches her in a workplace below the hotel and promptly slashes her throat. Detective Winn places the hotel on lockdown with all exits covered and uses the fire alarm to get everyone out as Fenton unknowingly escapes too in the employee's uniform he murdered earlier and follows Donna back to her home. Fenton then murders a police officer, Detective Nash and Donna's boyfriend Bobby, grabbing her in the closet. Winn realizes that Fenton escaped the hotel the entire time and speeds to the home where he shoots Fenton multiple times before he can stab Donna, killing him for good.
