A retail clerk is an employee in a business specializing in the sale of goods. It is not a particularly glamorous job, and requires very little skill or intellect, which is to say, one does not require a college degree or even a high school diploma in order to work in retail. Ideally, a retail clerk is supposed to not only facilitate a customer's purchases, but they also maintain the general upkeep of their work station or their place of employee in general. Retail clerks who work in convenience stores in high crime areas are often the subject of theft. Some who have suffered through this indignity in the past may even decide to arm themselves.
