- "It's the Count! He's grown young!"
- ―Jonathan Harker
Regressed aging, or reversed aging, is a physiological condition in which an individual ages in reverse, either physically, mentally or behaviorally. As this is not a true medical condition (at least not in the way its presented in film), all references to regressed agining take place in movies that allow for either a science fiction, fantasy or horror-based setting.
In film[]
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer: In the "Band Candy" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the adults of Sunnydale consume mystically tainted candy that causes them to behave like teenagers. Among those affected are Rupert Giles, Joyce Summers and Principal Snyder.
- Dracula: In Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, the vampire Count Dracula uses undefined mystical powers to regress himself from an aged man with various physical abnormalities to a youthful figure with long brown hair and a mustache. It is possible that this regressed aging may have been made possible through the consumption of blood, though this is never explained in the film.
- Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies: A dying bank robber named Eric encounters an evil djinn who goads him into making a wish. Seeking to escape the physical pain, as well as this terrifying encounter, Eric wishes that he had never been born. The djinn obliges and physically regresses Eric in age until he is nothing but an embryo.
In television[]
- Tales from the Crypt: Staired in Horror: A woman named Lilian is trapped in her cursed family mansion. In her natural state, she is very old. As she ascends a staircase however, she grows younger.
