The Portrait of Barnabas Collins is a fictional item featured in the original ABC Gothic soap opera television series Dark Shadows.

Description[]

The Portrait of Barnabas Collins was commissioned by Barnabas Collins himself in 1967 when he hired a local Collinsport artist named Sam Evans to render the painting for him. Barnabas had very strict instructions about the sittings, the most notable of which was that they could only be done at night, and must cease with the coming of dawn. Sam never quite understood this, but as he was hungry for work, he agreed to Barnabas' wishes. The truth was, Barnabas was a vampire, who was vulnerable during the day.

One of the reasons why Barnabas chose Sam to paint the portrait was so he could increase the number of opportunities he would have to see Sam's daughter, Maggie Evans, whom Barnabas had set his sights on dominating.

The completed portrait was hung over the mantle in the parlor room at the Old House.
