The PIt and the Pendulum is an American feature film of the psychological thriller subgenre of horror. It is based on the 1842 short story The Pit and the Pendulum by author Edgar Allan Poe. The film adaptation was directed by Roger Corman with a screenplay written by Richard Matheson. It was produced by MGM and Alta Vista Productions and distributed theatrically in the United States by American International Pictures. The movie debuted on August 12th, 1961.
