Phil Tippett is an American visual effects technician, stop-motion animator, as well as a director, producer and creative designer. He has occasionally appeared as an extra in various films beginning with the 1977 sci-fi epic Star Wars where he played a cantina alien. Tippett's first work in the horror genre was creating miniatures for the 1977 film The Crater Lake Monster. A year later, he made an appearance in as a scuba diver in Joe Dante's 1978 movie Piranha.
