A paranormal investigator is one who investigates and researches instances relating to the paranormal or supernatural. Often referred to as "ghost hunters", they are usually looked upon as either con artists, or crack-pots. Even amongst those within professional communities, they are regarded as examiners of fringe science at best. The purpose of an investigation is to collect evidence that is in support of claims of the paranormal. This includes using equipment such as EMF meters, audio recorders, digital cameras, digital thermometers, and other devices. In some instances, a paranormal investigator may concentrate their efforts towards trying to dis-prove the existence of the supernatural. To date, no scientific study has ever been able to confirm the existence of ghosts.
