The Originals is an American television series of the supernatural horror genre. It is a spin-off of the popular television series The Vampire Diaries, which in turn, are based on a series of young adult novels by author L.J. Smith. The series was created by Julie Plec and began airing on the CW Network on Monday evenings on October 3rd, 2013. The series proved instantly popular and the first season spanned a total of twenty-two episodes. Season two proved to be a full season as well, also containing a count of twenty-two episodes. The series stars Joseph Morgan as Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson, Daniel Gillies as Elijah Mikaelson, Claire Holt as Rebekah Mikaelson, Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley Marshall, Charles Michael Davis as Marcel Gerard, Daniella Pineda as Sophie Deveraux, Leah Pipes as Camillie O'Connell, Danielle Campbell as Davina Claire and Yusuf Gatewood as Finn Mikaelson.
