Nick Maguire is a fictional police detective and a central character featured in the 30 Days of Night multimedia franchise. Played by actor Christopher Stapleton, he appeared in all six chapters from the 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust web series on FEARnet.
Biography[]
Nick Maguire was the son of Jim and Susan Maguire from New Orleans, Louisiana. He had a younger sister named Sara. Nick worked for the New Orleans Police Department as a detective and was a colleague of fellow detective Gina Harcourt.
In early 2007, Nick's parents were murdered and their killer was captured. Nick lost faith that true justice would ever be meted out though. His fears were confirmed in January, 2008, when the courts had to release the killer due to a technicality. Having completely lost faith in the system, Nick turned his badge that very morning.
On that same day, Nick was alerted to an incident taking place at the Orleans County Penitentiary where his sister worked. While the guards were walking convict George Fowler through the yard to transfer him to a maximum security facility, a vampire named Jacob attacked the group. Sara was present and suffered a severe throat injury from Jacob, which spread the creature's vampirism to her. Within hours, she had completely succumbed to the injury and became a blood-thirsty monster. [1]
When Nick learned what had happened, he took it upon himself to investigate the matter. Believing that escaped criminal George Fowler was the man responsible, he tracked him to a recreational vehicle owned by a loan shark named Nate Keller. He held George at gunpoint, but then the vehicle was attacked by Jacob. Nick shot at the vampire, but the creature was able to get away. Nick brought George along with him who explained to him about the existence of vampires. [2]
Nick eventually tracked Sara down after she had injured several people and ate a friend's dog. Sara attacked and killed Detective Gina Harcourt in the shower and Nick was forced to restrain his sister by handcuffing her to the shower rail. The vampire Jacob attacked their home, and Nick and George had to fight him to the death. [3]
Nick brought Sara back to his apartment, determined to find a cure for her. Sara knew that no such thing existed, so rather than continuing to live as a blood-thirsty killer, she elected to end her own life by walking out into the sun. [4]
