My Bloody Valentine is an American horror film of the slasher subgenre. It was directed by George Mihalka with a screenplay written by Stephen A. Miller and John Beaird. It was produced by Paramount Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on February 11th, 1981. The movie was remade in 2009 by director Patrick Lussier.

- The MPAA forced George Mihalka to excise over nine minutes of content from the film in order for My Bloody Valentine to receive an R-rating over an X. An uncut DVD version of the film was released by Lions Gate Entertainment on January 13th, 2009 and contains the original unused footage.
- The scenes that take place at the Hanniger Coal Mine were shot at the Sydney Mines in Nova Scotia, Canada.
- This movie stylistically patterns itself after the European giallo films of the early 1970s. Trademarks include presenting the murders from the point of view of the killer. An emphasis on gore or brutality, and the killer is seen wearing black gloves.
