A morgue is a place where you can safely store your vict... uhh, err... I mean, the dearly departed, while they are waiting to be examined by a coroner or mortician for the purposes of either an autopsy or preparation for a funeral. In colleges and funeral homes, these places are typically referred to as morgues. In medical buildings, they are called mortuaries.
Bodies tend to rot pretty quickly, so even the shabbiest of morgues will store the corpses inside of a refrigerated area. Right next to the pickles. These cold units are usually a wall of drawers where the bodies are kept to delay the effects of decomposition.
In television[]
- Carl Kolchak visited the morgue while investigating a bizarre death in which a man was beheaded by an alleged headless motorcycle rider. [1]
