Description[]

Miskatonic University is a prestigious Ivy League school located in the city of Arkham in Essex County, Massachusetts. One of its most notable campuses is its medical school, which has a history of some controversy and notoriety, owing largely to events stemming from one of its more accomplished students, Doctor Herbert West. The medical school included classrooms, emergency rooms, operating rooms and an autopsy room, which was guarded by a man named A. Mace.

Re-Animator[]

The head of Miskatonic Medical School was Dean Alan Halsey. One of his premiere instructors was a brain specialist and "grant machine" named Doctor Carl Hill. Dean Halsey regarded a third-year medical student named Dan Cain as one of the school's best young hopes for the future of medicine.

Dan Cain held great passion for his trade, but had yet to develop the cold intuition that was sometimes required of a doctor. For example, while trying to resuscitate a dying patient with Doctor Harrod, Dan continued administering treatment even though all hope was gone. Harrod told him, "Cain, your optimism is touching, but a waste of time. A good doctor knows when to stop".

  • The motto for Miskatonic University is "Ex Ignorantia Ad Sapientiam; Ex Luce Ad Tenebras", which means, "Out Of Ignorance Into Wisdom; Out Of Light Into Darkness".
