- The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series of novels was created by author Anne Rice. They began as a three volume set, which began in 1990 with The Witching Hour, and continued in Lasher in 1993 and Taltos in 1994, as well as crossover works with Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. The Mayfair Witches television series, which debuted on AMC in January, 2023 was developed for television by Michelle Ashford and Esta Spalding.

- Birds feature prominently in this episode. In the 1681 flashback, Suzanne sees a flock of birds which are seemingly whispering her name. In the modern timeline, Rowan Mayfair inadvertently uses her power to kill a flock of crows, which fall down upon her car. In some cultures, a dead bird is an omen that someone close is about to die. Rowan's mother dies at the end of the episode.
