Mariner's Inn is a fictional business featured on the Showtime television series Penny Dreadful. It first appeared in the second episode of the show, "Séance".

Description[]

Mariner's Inn was a business located on the shore of the river and operated during the latter half of the 19th century. It consisted of lodgings and a bar, and catered primarily to sailors, stevedores and others working on ships. The prostitute Brona Croft had a room here. An American traveler, Ethan Hunt, visited the bar at the Mariner's Inn, which is where he first met Brona. The two fell madly in love with one another, and Ethan took to staying in Brona's room, which because convenient for her, as it would allow him to keep vigil over her as she suffered from the effects of tuberculosis.

Two Americans named Warren Roper and Mister Kidd were hired by Ethan Chandler's father to track him down and return him to the United States. They caught up with Ethan at Mariner's Inn and informed him of their intentions to bring him back. Ethan was in no mood for threats and proceeded to beat both of them up in the lounge area of the Inn.

Soon after, Brona Croft's condition took a turn for the worse and she didn't have long to live. Ethan brought in physician Victor Frankenstein in the hopes that he might help, but there was nothing Victor could do. While Ethan was in another room, Victor smothered Brona with a pillow to give her a quicker, less painful death. He allowed Ethan to think that she had succumbed to the consumption.

When Roper and Kidd returned a second time to apprehended, they failed to reckon with the fact that Ethan had just lost his true love, plus the fact that it was the night of a full moon. Ethan transformed into a werewolf and slaughtered everyone inside the bar room area. [1]

Wax museum curator Oscar Putney capitalized on what the papers were calling the "Mariner's Inn Massacre", by adding it to his special "ripped from the headlines" true crime exhibit at his Waxworks museum. [2]
