Notes & Trivia[]

  • The tagline to this film is "You have the right to remain silent... forever!" This is also used as a lyric in the rap song that plays during the closing credits.
  • On the movie review aggregate webiste Rotten Tomatoes, Maniac Cop 2 has a 60% certified fresh Tomatometer rating based on ten approved critic reviews. It has an audience score of 43%. Positive reviews originated with James Kendrick of the Q Network Film Desk, Felix Vasquez, Jr. of Cinema Crazed, Jeffrey M. Anderson of the San Francisco Examiner, and John J. Puccio of Movie Metropolis.
  • This film gives a dedication to Joe Spinell before the closing credits. Spinell played the role Frank Zito in Maniac, which was also directed by William Lustig. He was tapped to play the role of Turkell in this film, but suffered a fatal heart attack on January 13th, 1989 at the age of 52.
  • There are almost no scenes where Robert Davi isn't smoking at some point.
  • Robert Z'Dar has one line of dialogue consisting of only a single word. When Turkell asks him who he is, he raspy replies "Cordell".
  • Actor Michael Lerner plays Police Commissioner Doyle in this film. Michael's brother, Ken Lerner, had an uncredited appearance in the first Maniac Cop as the mayor, Jerry Killium.

That don' make no sense![]

  • Regardless of the inequity visited upon Matt Cordell resulting in his incarceration and subsequent demise, there is no way he would be given a full honors funeral. The guy just Terminatored an entire police station and a prison, killing dozens of innocent police officers.
  • Throwing a car into neutral doesn't mean that it automatically accelerates to 90. There is no rational reason why Susan Riley (handcuffed to the outside of a car door) would go mad-zipping through the streets of New York with no one applying pressure to the gas pedal.
  • Serial killers don't hang out with other serial killers. It simply doesn't happen. Their psychopathy prevents them from forming genuine relationships and the thought of Turkell suddenly becoming a Maniac Cop fan boy is, while highly amusing, also very unlikely.
  • Cordell walks through multiple closed doors, smashing through wood and glass. Not once does his police hat ever fall off. As Harry Morgan from M*A*S*H would say, "Horse-feathers!"
