The Lost Boys is an American horror film of the vampire subgenre. It was directed by Joel Schumacher and produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was released theatrically in the United States on July 31st, 1987. The film stars Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Diane Wiest, Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander and Barnard Hughes. The film spawned two direct-to-video sequels, both of which star Corey Feldman; Lost Boys: The Tribe was released in 2008 and Lost Boys: The Thirst was released in 2010. The movie takes place in the fictional coastal community of Santa Carla, California, which is being terrorized at night by a tribe of biker vampires. In the film, the Emerson family, which consists of mother Lucy and teenage sons Michael and Sam move to Santa Carla to stay with Lucy's father. Michael gets recruited into the vampire gang, led by David, and Sam grows paranoid as he learns that vampires are real. Desperate to save his brother, he enlists the services of two young, unorthodox vampire hunters, Edgar and Alan Frog.

- The title of the film is derived from a group of displaced orphans featured in the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy by children's author J.M. Barre. The Lost Boys live in the fantasy realm of Neverland and are the friends of boy adventurer Peter Pan and his endless crusade against the evil pirate Captain Hook.
- Co-executive producer John W. Hyde is credited as John Hyde in this film.
- Screenplay writer Jan Fischer is credited as Janice Fischer in this film.
- Actor Edward Herrmann is credited as Ed Hermann in this film.
- Lead actor Corey Haim died of a drug overdose on March 10th, 2010 at the age of 38. Corey reprised the role of Sam Emerson for a brief cameo role in Lost Boys: The Tribe.

- In the 2019 film Us, there is a scene where the characters of Russel Thomas, his wife Rayne Thomas and daughter Adelaide are on the Santa Cruz boardwalk in the summer of 1986. Rayne makes reference to people filming a movie over by the carousel. This is a direct reference to the opening scene from The Lost Boys, which began filming in June, 1986 and was shot at the Santa Cruz boardwalk.
