Biography[]

Lawrence van Helsing was a middle-aged scholar and vampire hunter active in the late 19th century. He had confronted the vampire lord known as Dracula and defeated him in 1872 by impaling him with a broken carriage wheel.

Lawrence van Helsing died in September of that year. He was buried in a cemetery at St. Bartolph's Church in London, England.

One-hundred years following Lawrence's death, his great-granddaughter, Jessica van Helsing, discovered Lawrence's gravestone while en route to what she believed was going to be a fake black mass ritual being held at the church. [1]

Family[]

  • J. Van Helsing - Ancestor? Contemporary? Relationship unclear. See notes.
  • Lorrimer Van Helsing - Grandson, though indicated to be his son. See notes.
  • Jessica Van Helsing - Great-great granddaughter, though indicated to be his great-granddaughter. See notes.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • It is unclear whether Lawrence van Helsing is supposed to be a different character from J. Van Helsing or if they are the same character. If they are different characters, then their family connection is also left unclear as they appered to be roughly the same age during the same time era. If different characters, then perhaps they were brothers or cousins. J. Van Helsing, also played by Peter Cushing, was the protagonist from the 1958 film Horror of Dracula.
  • Lawrence van Helsing was the grandfather of Lorrimer van Helsing, who lived in the modern era and was also played by Peter Cushing. Lorrimer's granddaughter, Jessica van Helsing, cited that Lawrence was her great-grandfather, which would make Lorrimer Lawrence's son, not grandson, which is impossible, as Lorrimer would have had to have been born prior to 1872, making him over 100-years-old. In all likelihood he is the grandson of Lawrence van Helsing, not his son.
