"When You're Lost in the Darkness" is the first episode of season one of the dramatic survival horror series The Last of Us and the first episode of the series overall. It was written and directed by Craig Mazin and co-written by franchise creator Neil Druckmann. It first aired on HBO Max on Sunday, January 15th, 2023.
Plot[]
The year is 2003. As a parasitic fungal outbreak begins to ravage the the country and the world, Joel Miller attempts to escape the escalating chaos with his daughter Sarah and brother Tommy. Not both of them survive, and Joel is severely traumatized. Twenty years later, a now hardened Joel and his partner Tess Servopoulos fight to survive under a totalitarian regime known as FEDRA, while the insurgent Fireflies resistance group harbor a teenage girl with a unique gift - a gift that could possibly mean salvation for the entire world.
