The Last of Us is an American live-action television series of the drama and survival horror genres. It is based on the 2013 action-adventure video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog. The show was created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann and produced by Naughty Dog, PlayStation Productions, Word Games and Sony Pictures Television. The series premiered on HBO Max, which later changed its title to just MAX. Season one of the show began on January 15th, 2023 and spanned nine episodes. The show has received numerous accolades from viewers and critics and was nominated for twenty-four Primetime Emmy Awards. The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller with Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams. The premise of the show involves the mutation of Cordyceps fungi, which leads to a global viral outbreak that turns the infected into mindless, murderous pseudo-zombies. Twenty years after Outbreak Day, Joel Miller operates as a smuggler based out of a quarantine zone in Boston. He is charged with protecting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie Williams, who appears to be immune to infection, and may just hold the key to a cure. Miller embarks on a journey to bring Ellie to a settlement where they hope that salvation may be found.
