La Dola is a fictional item and a major plot point featured in the 2020 feature film Freaky.

Description[]

"La Dola" is the name attributed to a Mesoamerican ritual dagger that was created sometime around the year 1688. Its hilt was carved out of human bone, with the base fashioned in the image of a skull. Years after it had been discovered, an inscription was carved into the blade, which gave warning against those who chose to use it, for this was cursed object.

In November, 2020, the dagger was part of a collection owned by an art collector who lived in the town of Blissfield. The art collector's daughter, Ginny, hosted a get together at her home while her parents were away which included boyfriend Evan, friend Sandra, and Sandra's would-be love interest Isaac.

A serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher raided the home and began killing off the kids. Donning a mask that he found in the collection, he killed off Isaac, then Sandra, then Evan and finally Ginny. The Blissfield Butcher found himself captivated by dagger. He smashed the glass container and took off with it.

On the following evening, November 12th, the masked Butcher stalked the parking lot of Blissfield Valley High School. He pursued stranded student Millie Kessler and wrestled her to the ground. As he stabbed her in the shoulder in the light of the full moon, the curse of the dagger was activated. The Blissfield Butcher instantly developed a shoulder wound just like the one he had caused. At that moment, his consciousness switched bodies with that of Millie Kessler. His spirit was now trapped inside of her, and her spirit now inhabited the Butcher's body.

Millie's friends, Nyla Chones and Josh Detmer, consulted with a Spanish teacher named Mrs. Cayenes and learned that Millie only had until midnight the following evening to stab the Butcher with La Dola, thus reversing the curse, or else they would remain in each other's bodies forever.

As the Butcher continued to cut a swathe of destruction, Millie, Nyla and Josh succeeded in pinning him down. With only minutes to spare, Millie drove the dagger into the Butcher and their minds reverted back to their proper bodies. La Dola was then remanded to the care of the Blissfield Police Department.[1]

Notes & Trivia[]
