Kathryn Leigh Scott is an American actress born on January 26th, 1943 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She is best known for playing the role of Maggie Evans on the 1960s ABC gothic soap opera Dark Shadows.
Dark Shadows[]
Kathryn made her first appearance in the very first episode and remained with the series throughout its duration. In addition to Maggie Evans, Kathryn also played the role of Josette DuPres, an 18th century socialite and wife of Jeremiah Collins. Scott's Josette proved to be one of the most pivotal characters in the series, for she was the lover of Jeremiah's nephew, Barnabas Collins. The character's death in 1796 became a major plot element throughout the series. As Maggie Evans, Kathryn Leigh Scott became the target of Barnabas Collins some 170 years later when Barnabas, now a vampire, believed that Maggie was the reincarnation of his beloved Josette and attempted to make her his vampire bride. This plot device was later revisited in the 1970 film House of Dark Shadows, in which Scott reprised the role of Maggie Evans. During her tenure on the series, Scott also played the roles of Rachel Drummond, Lady Kitty Hampshire and Maggie Evans Collins (from an alternate reality).
Most of Kathryn Leigh Scott's career has remained in television, but she never really involved herself with material from the horror genre. In 2008, she appeared in the horror-thriller Parasomnia playing a character named (ironically enough) Nurse Evans.
In 1986, Kathryn and her then husband Ben Martin founded Pomegranate Press, a book publishing firm through which Scott published a 20th anniversary memoir of her years spent on the show entitled My Scrapbook Memories of Dark Shadows.
