Ju-on: The Curse, commonly referred to as simply Ju-on, is a Japanese feature film of the horror genre with an emphasis on ghost and haunted house fiction. It was written and directed by Takashi Shimizu. It was produced by the Toei Video Company and premiered in Japan on February 11th, 2000.

  • This film is alternatively known as just Ju-on.
  • This movie was remade as Ju-on: The Grudge in 2002 by Takashi Shimizu. Both versions were remade as an American feature in 2004 called The Grudge. Shimizu directed that film as well. The movie was remade a third time in 2020 as The Grudge by director Nicolas Pesce.
  • A four-minute film short called Katasumi, written and directed by Takashi Shimizu, serves as a precursor to this film. It was released in 1998. Another film short, 4444444444, released the same year, also ties into the Ju-on franchise.
  • Director and screenwriter Takashi Shimizu also performed the vocalization noises of the ghosts in this film.
